Wallick and Volk's lending shrank sharply in 2025: it made 187 loans, down 86% from 1,322 the year before, a steeper fall than at almost any similar lender.
Similar lenders, independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, typically shrank by 1%, while the whole market grew 10%. The drop came on top of a long decline from 8,827 loans in 2020. Its lending fell to $57.0 million from $364.2 million. It may have chosen to cut back, sold or closed part of its business, or changed what it reported; the filings do not say which.
In Cheyenne, where it has lent since 1990, its share fell to 0.3% from 5.8%; Fairway Independent Mortgage leads there. In Victoria, Texas, its share fell to 1.0% from 13.3%, and in El Centro to 1.5% from 5.9%. These losses follow from its overall retreat rather than from any one market.
Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) made up 34.2% of its lending, against 16.0% at the typical peer. Loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs added 8.0%. Manufactured homes were 7.0% of its loans, where the typical peer makes none, and 94.1% of its lending was for home purchase.
Its borrowers with low or moderate incomes made up 24.1% of the total, against 20.4% at peers. Loans in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods were 20.3%, slightly above the peer figure of 18.4%. Both shares were much the same in 2024, so the retreat did not change whom it lent to.
