Half its borrowers earn modest incomes
Some 49.6% of Unified Bank's loans went to low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers, up from 37.6% a year earlier. Similar lenders, state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans, managed 27.9%, and nearly all of them came in lower. Small loans may make such lending easier, and small loans are what this bank writes. That matters to a bank examined under the Community Reinvestment Act.
