Tomo Mortgage, a home-purchase lender that first reported in 2023, more than tripled its loans in 2025 and now lends in 35 states.
It made 288 loans in 2023, 996 in 2024 and 3,501 in 2025, a rise of 252% in the latest year. Similar lenders (independent mortgage companies making between half and twice as many loans) grew 11%, and the whole market 10%. Its growth was faster than at almost all of them.
Every loan it made in 2025 financed a home purchase. Conventional loans were 96.8% of the total, against 68.1% at similar lenders. Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) were 2.7%, against 23.0% for peers, and it made almost no loans guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Its typical rate, 6.38%, was below the peers' 6.62%.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 10.6% of its loans, against 28.4% at similar lenders, among the lowest tenth. Two plausible reasons sit in its mix: it makes few FHA loans, which often serve buyers on modest incomes, and its typical loan, $385,000, is larger than the peers' $315,000.
Texas is its main state, and it lends in 284 metros. It is a small player everywhere: in Houston, for example, it holds 0.1% of the market, ranking 163 of 929 lenders.
