Refinancing first
Refinances make up 55.8% of its lending and purchases only 31.7%. Its typical loan is $105,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans), smaller than at about nine in ten of them. It lends across 39 counties in five states.
Minority neighborhoods
Of its loans, 27.4% went to majority-minority tracts, against 6.6% at similar lenders, more than at nearly nine in ten. The share was 28.3% five years before, so this is long-standing. Its share of loans to low- and moderate-income borrowers rose to 22.0% from 14.2%. That is still below peers' 28.2%, which may reflect the incomes in the places it lends or a book weighted toward refinancing existing owners.
Few refinance refusals
It turned down 5.0% of decided first-lien refinance applications on owner-occupied homes, against 11.7% at similar lenders that report a rate. That is lower than at about two-thirds of them.
Slower growth, gains in Hattiesburg
