Our analysis, 2025
SunsetFCU, a small Portland credit union, made 35 home loans in 2025, and they were bigger than most similar credit unions make.
Its typical loan was $165,000, against $95,000 for similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans. That was higher than about four in five of the 412. Its dollar volume, $9.9 million, was higher than about four in five as well.
Purchase loans were 42.9% of its lending and refinances 31.4%; home-improvement and other loans made up the rest. Every loan was conventional. Its typical rate, 6.50%, was a little lower than the 6.75% typical of its peers.
Its loans fell 20%, from 44 to 35, while similar credit unions held steady and the whole market grew 10%. With so few loans, a handful either way moves that figure a lot, so it is too small to read much into. It filed no report for 2020 to 2022; those years are a gap in the record, not years without lending. Its lending is centered on Oregon, with a few loans in three other states.
