Our analysis, 2025
San Rafael Coop, a Puerto Rico lender, makes about two dozen small home-purchase loans a year and ranks near the middle of the lenders in Aguadilla, Mayagüez and Arecibo.
Its typical loan was $75,000, against $160,000 at similar lenders, the 31 independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans; that was smaller than at almost all of them. Home purchases made up 83.3% of its 24 loans and refinances the rest. All were conventional, with none backed by the government.
Its share of the Aguadilla market rose to 0.7% from 0.2%, ranking it 19 of 43 lenders, behind Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Firstbank. Its share also rose in Mayagüez and Arecibo. It lent in 5 metros and 13 counties, all in Puerto Rico, and has reported under HMDA since 2000. In San Juan-Bayamón-Caguas, the largest of its markets, it ranked 60 of 63. With 24 loans, its shares of lower-income borrowers and higher-priced loans are too small to read much into.
