Rapid Mortgage Company, an Ohio home-purchase lender, lends to low- and moderate-income borrowers more than about nine in ten similar lenders do.
Borrowers of low or moderate income took 42.7% of its loans, against 27.0% at similar lenders, which are independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans. Its typical loan, $245,000, was smaller than their $315,000.
Home purchases were 89.6% of its lending. Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) made up 35.0%, against 21.7% at similar lenders, and the FHA share has risen from 28.9% a year earlier. It turned down only 0.4% of purchase applications, against 3.2% at similar lenders.
Its loans rose 10% to 948, faster than the 4% at similar lenders. That follows three years of decline from 2,713 in 2021 to 861 in 2024.
Columbus and Cincinnati are its largest markets. In Columbus its share rose to 0.5%, ranking 51 of 596; The Huntington National Bank led. In Cincinnati it slipped to 0.4% from 0.5%, a small move that may reflect its growth going to Columbus instead.
