Our analysis, 2025
Point Mortgage, a Florida-based lender to home buyers, grew its loans by more than half in 2025, far faster than similar lenders, and lends more in poorer and majority-minority neighborhoods than most of them.
It made 1,856 loans, up 53% from 1,214. The typical similar lender, meaning independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, grew 8%, and the whole market 10%. Only about one in ten grew faster. It is still below the 2,607 loans it made in 2019; it filed no report for 2020.
Of its loans, 27.1% went to poorer neighborhoods (low- and moderate-income, or LMI, tracts), against 19.1% at similar lenders, higher than more than four in five of them. Another 39.9% went to majority-minority neighborhoods, against 25.3%. Its largest markets, Miami and San Diego among them, may account for much of that.
Home purchases made up 90.9% of its lending, across 75 metros in 20 states. Its largest gain was in Bloomington, Illinois, where its share rose to 3.4% from 1.5%, ranking it 5 of 221 lenders. In San Diego it ranked 35 of 639, with a steady share of 0.5%.
It turned down 2.4% of home-purchase applications, against 3.5% at similar lenders, and 3.3% of refinance applications, against 5.8%. Both are lower than about two-thirds of its peers.
