Mutual Federal Bank, a Chicago savings bank that has reported since 1990, now makes very few home loans of its own: 11 in 2025, against 1,079 in 2020.
Its lending fell from 1,079 loans in 2020 to 98 in 2023 and 5 in 2024. It made 11 in 2025. It may have chosen to buy loans rather than make them. Similar lenders (savings institutions making between half and twice as many loans) number only 11, too few for a firm comparison.
