Our analysis, 2025
Mortgage Express, an Oregon home-purchase lender, grew faster than most similar lenders in 2025 and pushed into Utah.
Its loans rose 18% to 1,317, against 3% for similar lenders (independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans) and 10% for the whole market. That was faster than about seven in ten of them. It has grown two years running from a low of 813 loans in 2023, though it remains far below the 4,900 of 2020.
It ranked 15 of 566 lenders in Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro and 4 of 158 in Corvallis, markets it has served since 2009. Its share rose in Salem, to 1.6%, but slipped in Portland and Corvallis, perhaps as rivals grew faster or as it spread its effort into new markets. In 2025 it began lending in Provo, Ogden and St. George.
Only 0.4% of its loans were higher-priced, with a rate well above the average for similar loans, against 2.2% for its peers. Its typical rate was 6.50%. Its typical loan, $405,000, was larger than at about three in four similar lenders. Purchases made up 83.3% of its business.
Majority-minority neighborhoods took 10.5% of its loans, against 28.8% for peers, though the share has risen from 8.1% a year earlier. A plausible reason is where it lends: mostly in Oregon, including smaller markets such as Salem, Corvallis and non-metro Oregon. Its share in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, 19.5%, was close to its peers'.
