Our analysis, 2025
Mission Loans, a nationwide non-bank, grew its lending by more than half in 2025 on a book of small refinance and other-purpose loans.
Its loans rose 58%, to 2,298, while similar lenders, independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, grew 9% and the whole market 10%. That was faster than about nine in ten of them. It lends in 48 states and 289 metros, and edged up its share in Anchorage, where it ranked 34 of 168 lenders.
Refinances made up 56.6% of its loans and other purposes 36.8%; purchases were only 6.7%. Its typical loan was $155,000, against $315,000 at similar lenders, the smallest among them or close to it. Conventional loans were 84.4% of its book, more than at four in five of its peers.
Its typical rate was 7.62%, against 6.62% among similar lenders, and 5.0% of its loans were higher-priced, at a rate well above the average for similar loans, against 2.1%. A book with so many other-purpose loans could account for most of the difference. Its rates fell from the year before, when its typical rate was 9.50%.
It made 5,229 loans in 2021 and 4,688 in 2022, then fell to 1,454 in 2024. With most of its loans refinances, and its typical rate 3.25% in 2020, it may make fewer loans when rates are high and fewer borrowers gain by refinancing. It has reported since 1990.
