Merchants Mortgage & Trust grew faster than most similar lenders in 2025, on conventional purchase loans that are larger than its peers' and spread across 33 states.
It made 1,982 loans in 2025, up 52% from 1,306. Similar lenders, here non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, grew by 17% and the whole market by 10%. Its growth was faster than at more than four in five of them. As recently as 2019 it made 279 loans.
Purchases made up 89.3% of its lending; refinancing was 3.3%. Every loan was conventional: it made no loans insured or guaranteed by a government agency, and none on manufactured homes.
Its typical loan was $425,000, against $305,000 at similar lenders, larger than at three in four of them. Jumbo loans, those larger than the conforming limit, made up 11.8%, against 3.7%. Both figures were about the same in 2024, so the larger size is a settled feature, not a one-year jump.
It lends in 142 metros, with California its main state, though it is based in Colorado. Its shares are small everywhere: 0.4% in Denver and 0.3% in Phoenix, both a little higher than in 2024. United Wholesale Mortgage led both markets. In 2025 it entered Boston, Kingston in New York and rural Wyoming.
