Our analysis, 2025
Lufthansa Employee Federal Credit Union, a Westbury, New York, credit union with $98.7 million in assets, has reported since 1990 but makes only a handful of home loans a year, all of them for home improvement.
All seven loans it reported in 2025 were for home improvement. It made no purchase or refinance loans. It has filed a report every year since 2018.
Its yearly count has stayed tiny: three loans in 2018, eight in 2019, 11 in 2022 and 10 in both 2023 and 2024. Seven in 2025 is within that range, so the fall of 30% from the year before means little.
Its loans are in the New York, Atlanta and Detroit areas, its only three metros, in three states. In each it is among the smallest of hundreds of lenders: 762nd of 802 in New York-Newark-Jersey City and 889th of 892 in Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Alpharetta.
Similar lenders are credit unions making between half and twice as many loans; there are 38 of them, and the typical one made 10 loans. With seven loans, its rate and its shares of borrowers' incomes and neighborhoods rest on a few cases each and say little about how it lends.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year. Written from the 2025 HMDA data and checked figure by figure against it.
