First in Ames, second in rural Iowa
It ranks first of 189 lenders in Ames and second of 465 in non-metro Iowa, markets it has served since 1990 or soon after. Its share of Ames fell to 7.5% from 11.7%, and of Des Moines to 2.1% from 3.2%. Both came in a year when its own lending fell and the whole market grew 10%, which may account for much of them: it made 2,145 loans, down 11%, while similar lenders, independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, grew 9%.
