Hometrust Mortgage Company, a Houston home-buying lender, grew 23% in 2025, faster than more than four in five similar lenders, and leans on government-backed loans.
It made 751 loans, up from 609, while similar lenders, independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, grew 2% and the whole market 10%. It remains far below the 4,129 loans it made in 2020. Purchases were 93.9% of its lending.
Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) rose to 31.8% of its lending, from 23.8%, against 20.3% at similar lenders. Loans guaranteed by the Department of Agriculture's Rural Housing Service (RHS) were 2.9%, against 0.2%. Conventional loans fell to 58.7%.
Majority-minority neighborhoods took 42.9% of its loans, against 24.8% at similar lenders, higher than at about four in five of them. Its lending centers on Texas and Houston, its largest market, where it ranked 98 of 929 lenders.
It entered Hattiesburg in 2025 and won 0.6% of that market at once, ranking 40 of 177. In Albuquerque its share fell from 1.1% to 0.8%, though it still ranked 27 of 364. One possibility is that its growth went to new markets rather than old ones.
