First National Bank of Hereford, a Texas national bank that first reported its home lending in 2024, made 34 loans in 2025, up 31% in a year when similar lenders slipped.
Its loans rose from 26 to 34. Similar lenders, national banks making between half and twice as many loans, saw their numbers fall 2%, while the whole market grew 10%. The bank grew faster than about four in five of them. With only two years on record, it is too early to call this a trend.
Every loan was conventional; it made no government-backed loans. About two-thirds (67.6%) financed a purchase and 29.4% a refinance. Its typical loan, $190,000, was close to the $175,000 of similar lenders.
Amarillo is its biggest market, where it ranked 42 of 258 lenders; Amarillo National Bank leads there. It also lends in Lubbock and, farther off, in Crestview-Fort Walton Beach-Destin in Florida and in non-metro Oklahoma, 10 counties in 3 states in all. Its shares in the distant markets round to nothing.
Almost half its loans (47.1%) went to majority-minority neighborhoods, where most residents belong to minority groups, against 8.6% at similar lenders. That is more than at about five in six of them. On 34 loans a few deals move the share a long way, and it may simply reflect the small number of counties it serves.
