Our analysis, 2025
First Commercial Bank, a Seguin bank that has lent around San Antonio since 1990, made 26 home loans in 2025, a fraction of the 124 it made in 2022.
The bank made 124 loans in 2022, then 48 in 2023 and 30 in 2024. The figures do not say why its lending fell by more than half in one year.
Its loans fell 13% in 2025. Similar lenders, national banks making between half and twice as many loans, fell 14%, while the whole market rose 10%. So its 2025 decline was shared by banks of its size rather than peculiar to it. With 26 loans, few of its other measures carry much weight.
Every loan was conventional, as at most similar banks. Home purchases made up 53.8% of its loans, home improvement 19.2% and refinancing 15.4%. With so few loans, that mix can swing a good deal from year to year.
San Antonio-New Braunfels is its largest market, and it has lent there since 1990 and in Corpus Christi since 1993. It ranks 240th of 669 lenders around San Antonio, where United Wholesale Mortgage and Lennar Mortgage lead. The bank was established in 1983 and merged with Jourdanton State Bank in 2016.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year. Written from the 2025 HMDA data and checked figure by figure against it.
