Credence Funding is a refinance lender for veterans: 89.4% of its loans are guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and 90.5% are refinances.
Similar lenders, independent non-banks making between half and twice as many loans, put only 4.1% of their loans in VA lending. Credence Funding's typical loan, $325,000, is close to theirs. It lends in 22 states and 108 metros from its base in Maryland.
Its loans fell by 28% in 2025, to 273, while similar lenders grew by 2%. A refinance lender rises and falls with rates: it made 611 loans in 2020, when its typical rate was 2.75%, and only 73 in 2023. Its typical rate is now 5.75%.
