Consumer Real Estate Finance Company, a Fort Lauderdale mortgage company that lends to lower-income home buyers with government-backed loans, grew by 68% in 2025, far faster than similar lenders.
Its loans rose to 1,566 from 931, after four years of between 801 and 960. Similar lenders, independent non-bank lenders making between half and twice as many loans, grew by 5% and the whole market by 10%. Fewer than one in ten peers grew faster.
Loans guaranteed by the Department of Agriculture's Rural Housing Service (RHS) made up 21.3% of its lending, against 0.3% for peers, the highest share in the group. Though based in Florida, its main state is Illinois, and it lends in 198 metros across 29 states. Its biggest foothold is La Crosse-Onalaska, where its share rose to 3.0% from 1.4% and it ranks 6 of 213. In Chicago it ranks 150 of 902.
