BankFirst, a Norfolk, Nebraska, state bank, makes only conventional home loans across rural Nebraska and Iowa, and lends to more low- and moderate-income borrowers than most banks its size.
It made 189 loans in 2025, 2% fewer than in 2024, while similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) grew by a typical 10%, as did the whole market. Its highest count on record was 326 loans in 2020. It filed no report for 2018; its first was for 2019.
35.5% of its loans went to low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers, against 27.8% at similar lenders, more than at about four in five of them, and up from 28.1% in 2024. In majority-minority neighborhoods its share, 16.9%, was more than double the peers' 6.5%.
It ranked 20 of 167 lenders in Sioux City, IA-NE-SD, with a 1.5% share, down from 1.7%; Central Bank led. Its record there runs back to 1990 because the filings of Iowa - Nebraska State Bank, which it merged with in 2018, count as its own in these figures. The small fall in share came in a year when its own lending was flat and the whole market grew. It also ranked 20 of 341 in non-metro Nebraska, where Pinnacle Bank led.
Every loan was conventional, with no government backing and none on manufactured homes. About two-thirds were purchases (65.6%) and most of the rest refinances.
