Our analysis, 2025
Alkan Mortgage, a central Florida home-purchase lender, leapt from a handful of loans to hundreds in 2024, then gave back some of that ground in 2025.
The lender first reported in 2013 but made only 5 loans in 2023. In 2024 it made 839. Its record does not say what changed, and a reader comparing years should keep that break in mind.
Its loans fell 27% to 613, while similar lenders, meaning non-banks making between half and twice as many loans, typically grew 2% and the whole market 10%. That is a steeper fall than about nine in ten of them. Its shares in Orlando and Deltona slipped from 0.8% to 0.5%. One possibility is that 2024 was the unusual year; another is that it spread itself, entering Punta Gorda, Santa Rosa and Santa Cruz in 2025.
Home purchases made up 84.0% of its lending. Loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration were 27.9% and those guaranteed by Veterans Affairs 8.5%, both above peers' 20.2% and 5.7%.
Its core is the Orlando, Deltona and Palm Bay metros, where it ranked 50 of 854, 46 of 639 and 43 of 573; United Wholesale Mortgage led all three. Its share of loans in low- and moderate-income tracts, 21.6%, was higher than about two-thirds of peers'.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year. Written from the 2025 HMDA data and checked figure by figure against it.
