Winnebago Community Credit Union is an Oshkosh refinance lender that lost ground in its home market in 2025 as its loans grew smaller.
Refinances made up 52.6% of its loans, purchases 33.3% and home improvement 12.8%. All were conventional. Its typical loan, $125,000, was larger than the $95,000 of similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans. It made 241 loans in 2021 and about a third as many now; the figures do not show why.
The credit union has lent in Oshkosh-Neenah since at least 1990. Its share there fell to 0.9% from 1.5%, ranking it 28 of 231; Community First Credit Union leads. Its typical loan shrank to $125,000 from $175,000 while its loan count barely moved, which may account for much of the fall in its dollar share. Loans fell 4% to 78, while similar lenders grew 7% and the whole market 10%.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 37.7% of its loans, against 30.6% at similar lenders, a higher share than about seven in ten of them. Five years before, the figure was 25.6%. Its share of loans in LMI neighborhoods, 11.5%, was lower than at most similar lenders, which may reflect the counties where it lends.
