Security Bank, a small Wisconsin lender, grew faster than most similar banks in 2025 and gained ground in Eau Claire, its main market.
It made 74 loans, 21% more than in 2024. Similar lenders, state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans, grew by 9%, and the whole market by 10%. The rebound is modest beside its own past: it made 306 loans in 2020 and fell to 57 by 2023. The figures do not say why.
Eau Claire is its largest market, where it has lent since at least 1990. It ranks 18 of 220 lenders there, and its share rose to 1.3% from 1.0%. Royal Credit Union leads the market by a wide margin, with $265.1M.
Of its borrowers, 37.5% had low or moderate incomes (LMI), higher than at about four in five similar lenders, whose typical figure is 27.2%. Yet only 4.0% of its loans were in poorer (LMI) neighborhoods, among the lowest tenth, and none in majority-minority neighborhoods. It lends in nine counties, including rural ones outside metro areas, and few such neighborhoods there may explain both figures.
Purchases make up 60.8% of its loans and refinancing 35.1%. Every loan was conventional, and its typical loan of $205,000 was somewhat above the $172,500 at similar lenders.
