Our analysis, 2025
Red River Federal Credit Union, a small Oklahoma credit union, raised its lending by 71% in 2025, and two-thirds of its loans were refinancings.
It made 65 loans, up from 38, while similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans, grew by 7%. That is faster than at more than nine in ten of them. Its record is choppy: 58 loans in 2022, then 23 in 2023.
Refinancings made up 67.7% of its loans and purchases 30.8%. All its loans were conventional. Its typical loan, $75,000, was smaller than at more than seven in ten peers, whose figure was $95,000.
Some 31.2% of its loans went to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, against 17.4% for peers, more than at nearly nine in ten of them. And 30.8% went to majority-minority neighborhoods, against 9.2%. Both shares have risen since a year earlier.
Its biggest market is non-metro Oklahoma, where it has lent since 2014 and ranks 116 of 538 lenders. It also lends in Lawton, where its share rose to 0.1%.
