Peoples Savings Bank, a small Iowa lender of unusually small loans, made fewer of them in 2025 while similar lenders made more.
Its typical loan was $75,000, against $172,500 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans), lower than almost all of them. Home-improvement loans, usually small, made up 14.5% of its lending, and purchases 60.5%.
Its loans fell 30% to 76, while those of similar lenders rose 9%. It had made 99 in 2023 and 108 in 2024. At this size a few dozen loans either way swing the total, so one year says little. Whether 2025 is a dip or a turn, the record cannot yet tell. It filed no report for 2018 to 2022, gaps in the record rather than years without lending.
