Home improvement made up 62.3% of its loans and purchases only 3.3%. Its typical loan was $75,000, against $195,000 five years before. Larger first mortgages may have given way to smaller loans on homes members already own.
Low- and moderate-income borrowers took 8.2% of its loans, against 30.6% at similar credit unions, those making between half and twice as many loans. That puts it among the lowest twentieth of them. It made no loans in majority-minority neighborhoods, against 9.7% for the group. Home-improvement loans go only to people who already own homes, one possible reason; the seven New Hampshire counties it lends in are another.
