Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union more than doubled its lending in 2025, and a third of its loans were for manufactured homes.
Its loans rose 113%, from 38 to 81, faster than nearly all similar lenders, meaning other credit unions making between half and twice as many loans. Those grew 6% and the whole market 10%. The jump returns it to where it stood before 2023: it made 93 loans in 2018 and 76 in 2022.
Manufactured homes made up 33.3% of its loans; at the typical similar credit union the share is 0.0%. Even so, none of its loans was higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans), and its typical rate of 6.75% matched peers'.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 50.6% of its loans, against 30.6% at similar lenders, higher than more than nine in ten of them. Poorer neighborhoods (LMI tracts) took 31.2%, against 17.3%.
Its share of Bangor lending rose from 0.2% to 0.6%, putting it 35 of 182 lenders. Bangor Savings Bank leads that market. Home purchases made up 64.2% of its loans.
