Intercity State Bank, a Wausau-area lender since at least 1990, made 54 loans in 2025, down 45% in a year when most similar banks grew.
Its loans fell to 54 from 98, while similar lenders, state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans, grew 6%. Its growth was lower than at nearly all of them. In 2020 it made 400. The figures do not say why lending has fallen so far.
It ranks 13 of 196 lenders in Wausau, its largest market, where Covantage Credit Union leads. Its share fell to 1.8% from 2.2%. Its own smaller volume may explain the slip; gains by rivals could too.
Its typical loan was $120,000, against $167,500 at similar lenders, smaller than at about four in five of them. Purchases made up 53.7% of its loans and refinances 35.2%, all conventional.
