Friend Bank, an Alabama lender, ranks 18 of 222 in Dothan and lends more in minority neighborhoods than most similar banks.
In Dothan, its largest market, it held 1.6% of lending, down from 1.7%, a change too small to read much into, and ranked 18 of 222. Mortgage Research Center led there. It has reported in Dothan since 2004. Elsewhere, from Birmingham to Panama City, its shares round to nothing.
Majority-minority neighborhoods took 26.5% of its loans, up from 19.4% and against 6.7% at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans). Low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods took 29.4%, against 18.3%. Both are higher than at about three in four peers.
Home purchases were 54.4% of its loans and home improvement 10.3%, all conventional. Its typical loan was $125,000, against $175,000 at its peers, smaller than at about four in five of them.
It made 68 loans, up 10% from 62, in line with its peers and the whole market. It made 113 in 2018 and filed no report for 2020 to 2022; those years are gaps, not years without lending. It took its present name in 2012 and merged with City Bank of Hartford in 2015.
