First Security State Bank, a small Texas bank that first reported in 2024, makes conventional loans, mostly to buy homes, and its loans rose 31% in 2025, from 29 to 38.
It grew faster than similar lenders (lenders of the same type making between a quarter and four times as many loans), whose loans rose by 7%. Yet it still made fewer loans than about four in five of them; the typical one made 75. One year of change from so small a base is too little to call a trend.
Purchases made up 65.8% of its loans and refinancing 23.7%. Every loan was conventional, and it made no jumbo loans, those larger than the conforming limit.
