A credit union that fixes homes
Purchases were 40.0% of its 70 loans in 2025, home improvement 32.9% and refinancing 27.1%. Every loan was conventional, with no government backing. That makes it a broad household lender rather than a purchase shop.

Our analysis, 2025
First Credit Union lends for home improvement almost as often as for purchase, and in 2025 it grew a little faster than its peers after four years of decline.
Purchases were 40.0% of its 70 loans in 2025, home improvement 32.9% and refinancing 27.1%. Every loan was conventional, with no government backing. That makes it a broad household lender rather than a purchase shop.
Its loans rose 13%, against 7% at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans) and 10% for the whole market. The rebound is small beside the past. It made 323 loans in 2020 and 319 in 2021, and the data do not show why the total fell after that.
17.1% of its loans went to majority-minority neighborhoods, against 8.9% at similar lenders, a higher share than about two-thirds of them. None of its loans was higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans), against 3.3% at its peers.
It ranked 284 of 879 lenders in Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler, where it has lent since 1992, and it works in 5 metros, all in Arizona. Its competition figures include the filings of San TAN Credit Union, which it merged with in 2022.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year. Written from the 2025 HMDA data and checked figure by figure against it.
