Finex Credit Union, of East Hartford, lends mainly for home improvement, and its loans have nearly doubled since 2023.
Of its 81 loans in 2025, 65.4% were for home improvement; refinances were 18.5% and purchases 16.0%. Its typical loan, $105,000, was close to the $95,000 at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans).
Its loans rose 29%, against 6% at similar lenders, faster than at three in four of them, and up from 43 in 2023. It merged with First Connecticut Credit Union in 2023, which may account for some of that growth. It also lends well beyond Connecticut, in six states, and entered Orlando and Slidell in 2025 with shares that round to zero.
