CorePlus Federal Credit Union, which merged with Scient Federal Credit Union in 2025, made 58% more loans that year, though far fewer than in 2020.
Its 76 loans were 58% more than the 48 of 2024. Similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans) grew 7%, so it grew faster than nearly nine in ten of them. The merger with Scient may have contributed. It made 310 loans in 2020.
Home purchases made up only 17.1% of its loans. Refinances took 39.5%, other purposes 23.7% and home improvement 19.7%, all conventional. Its typical loan, $105,000, was near the middle of its peers.
In Norwich-New London-Willimantic, CT, where it has lent since at least 1990, it ranked 49 of 312 lenders with 0.4% of a $1.89B market, up from 0.2%. Liberty Bank led. That share counts Scient's filings as its own.
Poorer neighborhoods (low- and moderate-income, or LMI, tracts) took 10.5% of its loans, against 17.4% at peers, lower than at about four in five. LMI borrowers took 28.9%, close to peers' 30.6%. The make-up of the Norwich-area and non-metro Connecticut communities it serves may explain the area figure.
