Our analysis, 2025
Conway Bank is a small Kansas bank that mostly refinances: 81.6% of its 38 loans in 2025 replaced an existing mortgage.
Home purchases made up only 15.8% of its loans, and every loan was conventional. It made 38 loans, the same as in 2024, while similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) made 2% more.
Its typical loan was $125,000, smaller than at about three in four similar lenders, where it was $167,500. That typical loan rose from $105,000 a year earlier, which lifted its dollar total from $4.9 million to $7.4 million.
Poorer neighborhoods (low- and moderate-income, or LMI, tracts) took 42.1% of its loans, against 18.9% at peers, higher than at about nine in ten of them. Majority-minority areas took 23.7%. On 38 loans, a few borrowers move these shares; in 2024 they were higher still, at 52.6% and 44.7%.
In Wichita, KS it ranked 92 of 367 lenders with 0.2% of the market, up from 0.1%. Peoples Bank and Trust Company led. It first reported in 1998 but filed no report for 2019 to 2023. Those are gaps in the record, not years without lending.

FIG. 1 — LOANS ORIGINATED, 2018–2025
Originated means the loan was made: applications denied, withdrawn or not accepted are not counted. Years with no HMDA report from this lender are left out: since 2020 a bank making fewer than 100 closed-end loans a year need not report. Conway Bank took 40 applications in 2025.
