Castroville State Bank, a small Texas purchase lender, made 21% more loans in 2025, most of them in majority-minority neighborhoods.
Originations rose 21% to 58, faster than about two-thirds of similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans). The dollars it lent rose from $11.0 million to $19.4 million. It filed no reports for 2020 to 2022, gaps in the record rather than years without lending.
Some 74.1% of its loans were in majority-minority neighborhoods, against 6.5% at similar lenders, higher than nearly all. And 32.8% were in low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods, against 18.6%. Its lending sits in three Texas metro areas, centered on San Antonio.
Only 12.5% of its loans went to LMI borrowers, against peers' 26.9%. Its typical loan, $215,000, was higher than their $165,000, which is one possible reason. Purchases were 60.3% of originations.
In San Antonio-New Braunfels, where it has lent since 2004, its share held at 0.1%, ranking 163 of 669, behind United Wholesale Mortgage and Lennar Mortgage.
