Bluff View Bank, a small Wisconsin bank, nearly doubled its share of the La Crosse-Onalaska market in 2025, to 1.1% from 0.6%.
The gain lifted it to 24 of 213 lenders there. Its total lending rose more modestly: it made 67 loans, up 10%, in line with similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) and with the whole market.
None of its loans was higher-priced, meaning a rate well above the average for similar loans; at its peers, 5.6% were. All were conventional, and none was a jumbo loan, larger than the conforming limit. Purchases made up 58.2% of its lending.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods took 1.5% of its loans, against 18.6% at similar lenders, among the lowest tenth of them. Its lending spans two small metros and non-metro parts of three states, and one possibility is that few neighborhoods in its 11 counties are LMI. It made 237 loans in 2020 and between 55 and 67 a year since 2022. Its lending in 2025 grew in step with similar lenders, so the earlier peak may reflect conditions in those years rather than a change in its business.
