Bangor Federal Credit Union, in Maine, is growing again after a long decline. Its 61 loans in 2025 were 52% more than in 2024, mostly refinances.
Its loans rose from 40 to 61, a 52% jump, against 7% at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans). That was faster than nearly nine in ten of them. The rise follows a fall from 100 loans in 2019. It filed no report for 2021.
Refinances made up 44.3% of its loans, and home improvement and purchases 19.7% each. Every loan was conventional. Its typical loan was $85,000, against $95,000 at similar lenders, and it made no jumbo loans.
All its lending was in Maine, in one metro and 7 counties. In Bangor, where it has lent since 1991, it ranked 29 of 182 lenders with 0.7%, up from 0.5%. Bangor Savings Bank led. Which nearby counties account for the rise is not clear from these figures.
