Owners, not buyers
Other-purpose loans made up 47.3% of its 74 originations and refinances 28.4%. Home purchase was only 2.7%. That makes it a lender of small consumer-style home loans rather than a mortgage lender in the usual sense.

Our analysis, 2025
Auburn Community Federal Credit Union hardly finances home purchases at all; it makes small loans to people who already own their homes.
Other-purpose loans made up 47.3% of its 74 originations and refinances 28.4%. Home purchase was only 2.7%. That makes it a lender of small consumer-style home loans rather than a mortgage lender in the usual sense.
Its typical loan was $45,000, against $95,000 at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), lower than nearly all of them. Its loan count was near the peer figure, so its small dollar volume follows from loan size. Home-improvement and other-purpose loans are usually small, which may explain much of it.
Of its loans, 21.6% were on manufactured homes, while the typical similar credit union made none, putting it higher than about nineteen in twenty peers. Every loan was conventional, with no government-backed lending.
Originations fell 8%, from 80 to 74, while similar lenders grew 6%. The credit union filed no HMDA report for 2018 to 2023, so 2024 is its first recent year on record and the trend is short. Its largest market is non-metro New York, where it ranked 135 of 377 lenders.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year. Written from the 2025 HMDA data and checked figure by figure against it.
FIG. 1 — LOANS ORIGINATED, 2024–2025
Originated means the loan was made: applications denied, withdrawn or not accepted are not counted. Years with no HMDA report from this lender are left out: since 2020 a bank making fewer than 100 closed-end loans a year need not report. Auburn Community Federal Credit Union took 101 applications in 2025.
