Our analysis, 2025
Alpine Credit Union, a Utah lender that first reported in 2025, lends mostly to people who already own their homes; three in four of its 61 loans were for home improvement or other purposes.
2025 is its first year in the public HMDA record, so there is no earlier year to compare. Its 61 loans and $9.2 million lent put it near the middle of similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans).
Other-purpose loans were 39.3% of its lending and home improvement 36.1%; purchases were only 13.1%. All were conventional. That mix goes with a small typical loan, $65,000, smaller than at about four in five similar lenders, where it was $95,000.
It lent in four Utah counties. In Provo-Orem-Lehi, UT it ranked 104 of 319 lenders, with 0.1%; United Wholesale Mortgage and First Colony Mortgage led. It had only a small presence in Salt Lake City-Murray and St. George.
Some 29.5% of its loans went to low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers, near the middle of similar lenders, and 14.8% were in LMI areas. None were in majority-minority areas, against 9.7% at similar lenders. Its lending is confined to four counties, where such areas may be few.
Similar lenders: same lender type, originations between half and twice the lender's in the data year. Written from the 2025 HMDA data and checked figure by figure against it.
