Republic Bank of Chicago is almost purely a home-purchase lender, and half its loans went to low- and moderate-income borrowers, a higher share than at almost all similar lenders.
Purchases made up 99.6% of its 253 loans. Every loan was conventional and none was jumbo (larger than the conforming limit). Its typical loan was $135,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans), smaller than at about three in four of them.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 50.0% of its loans, against 28.1% at similar lenders. Five years before, their share was 21.6%. Majority-minority areas took 38.3% of its loans, against 6.5%, more than at about nine in ten of its peers.
Its loans fell 5% to 253, while similar lenders grew by 9% and the whole market by 10%. Its count has stayed between 232 and 265 every year since 2021. A lender that makes almost no refinances may simply have had less to gain when the market grew.
It ranks 218 of 902 lenders in Chicago-Naperville-Elgin, a market it has served since at least 1990. In 2025 it first lent in South Bend-Mishawaka.
