Portage Community Bank grew 23% in 2025 and gained share in Akron, its largest market, though it still makes far fewer loans than in 2021.
Originations rose to 264 from 215, faster than the 7% at the middle similar lender (state member banks making between half and twice as many loans) and the whole market's 10%. That ended three years of decline, but it made 495 loans in 2021.
Its share of the Akron market rose to 1.5% from 1.3%, ranking 14 of 401 lenders; The Huntington National Bank leads. It has lent there since 2000, and it also gained a little in Canton-Massillon and Youngstown-Warren.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 34.6% of its loans, against 28.2% at similar lenders, higher than about three in four of them. LMI neighborhoods took 19.4%, against 15.9%. Purchase loans were 83.7% of its lending.
It turned down 3.2% of decided first-lien home-purchase applications, against 6.7% at similar lenders, lower than about four in five of them. Its typical rate, 6.62%, was a little below peers' 6.75%.
