Peoples Bank, an Iowa bank, doubled its share of lending in Sioux City in 2025 as its loans rose 35%.
It made 167 loans, up from 124. Similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans) grew by 10%, as did the whole market, and it grew faster than about four in five of its peers. The dollars it lent rose from $26.5 million to $45.9 million.
In Sioux City, IA-NE-SD, its largest market and one it has served since at least 1990, its share rose from 2.1% to 4.1%. That ranked it 8 of 167 lenders. Central Bank leads there.
Its typical loan, $135,000, was smaller than at about three-quarters of similar lenders, whose typical loan was $175,000. Purchases took 55.7% of its loans and refinances 25.7%. Almost all, 97.6%, were conventional, and it made no loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).
Borrowers with low and moderate incomes (LMI) took 28.9% of its loans, near the middle of similar lenders, whose typical share was 27.9%. That is down from 35.5% in 2020. Over the same years its typical loan rose from $85,000 to $135,000. Higher home prices may have put fewer homes within reach of LMI borrowers.
