Mutual Savings Association, a Kansas savings institution, grew 31% in 2025, and a fifth of its loans are for home improvement.
It made 126 loans, up from 96. Similar lenders (savings institutions making between half and twice as many loans) grew 6% at the middle, so it grew faster than more than four in five of them. The dollars it lent rose to $51.6 million from $38.5 million. It made 188 loans in 2018.
Home improvement made up 19.8% of its loans, more than refinancing at 16.7%; purchases were 59.5%. Every loan was conventional. Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 5.1% of its lending, against 2.7% at similar lenders.
Its share rose 0.3 points to 0.4% in Lawrence, KS and 0.2 points to 0.4% in Topeka, KS. In St. Joseph, KS-MO it ranks 16 of 186 with 1.2%, little changed from 1.3%. In Kansas City, KS-MO it ranks 84 of 659.
Only 9.5% of its loans were in poorer neighborhoods (low- and moderate-income, or LMI, tracts), against 17.2% at similar lenders, lower than at more than four in five of them. Its share to LMI borrowers, 22.0%, was closer to the group's 24.7%. The 19 counties where it lends may hold fewer such neighborhoods than its peers' markets.
