Helm Bank USA, a Miami bank, makes big purchase loans, about a quarter of them jumbo, and most of them in majority-minority neighborhoods.
Purchases made up 83.4% of its loans. Its typical loan was $425,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans). It ranks 133 of 937 lenders in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, where United Wholesale Mortgage leads. In Orlando it ranks 146 of 854, and its share fell to 0.1% from 0.2%; its smaller volume is one possible reason. All its lending is in Florida.
