Granite State Credit Union, a New Hampshire credit union that lends mostly for home improvement and refinancing, raised its loan count by 35% in 2025.
It made 326 loans in 2025, up from 242, while similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans) grew 7%. Its growth was higher than at about four in five of them. It remains below the 434 of 2021, after three years of decline.
Home improvement made up 39.6% of its loans and refinancing 38.3%; purchases were only 8.0%. Its typical loan was $95,000, against $105,000 at similar lenders. Its mix of home-improvement loans, which are often small, is one possible reason.
