Floridacentral Credit Union nearly tripled its lending in 2025, to 174 loans, almost all of them refinances. Even so, it made far fewer loans than the 368 of 2018.
Refinances made up 90.8% of its loans and purchases 9.2%, and all were conventional. Its typical loan was $85,000, against $105,000 at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans). It lends mainly to people who already own their homes.
Its loans rose 181% in 2025, faster than at almost all similar lenders, whose count rose 7%. The jump came off a low base: its lending fell from 340 loans in 2021 to 62 in 2024. The record does not say why. In 2024 it also bought 56 loans from other lenders; in 2025 it bought none.
Borrowers with low or moderate incomes (LMI) took 21.8% of its loans, down from 33.3% in 2024 and below the 28.3% at similar lenders. Owners refinancing may tend to earn more than first-time buyers, which is one possible reason. Its share in poorer neighborhoods, 17.0%, was close to peers' 17.2%.
It ranks 223 of 925 lenders in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, where it has lent since 1991. Its shares in its other Florida markets are tiny.
