Datcu, a Texas credit union, mostly refinances existing mortgages, and its loan count held at 366 in 2025 while similar lenders grew 7%.
Refinances made up 76.8% of its loans and purchases 23.0%. Nearly all were conventional. Its typical loan was $155,000, against $105,000 at similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), and up from $75,000 in 2024. The data do not say why it roughly doubled in a year, whether through its products or the homes it lends on.
Originations were flat at 366, while similar lenders grew 7% and the whole market 10%. It has made between 366 and 392 loans a year since 2022, after a peak of 644 in 2020. Larger loans lifted its dollar total to $71.7 million from $59.4 million.
Majority-minority areas took 21.0% of its loans, up from 7.4% in 2020 and higher than at about two-thirds of similar lenders. Its share in low- and moderate-income (LMI) areas roughly doubled over the same span, to 12.6% from 6.4%.
In Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, its largest market, it ranked 180 of 1,026 lenders; United Wholesale Mortgage led. In Sherman-Denison its share fell to 0.1% from 0.3%. One possible reason is that its own lending was flat while the whole market grew 10%.
