Our analysis, 2025
Crews Bank & Trust, a Wauchula bank enlarged by two mergers in 2023, makes bigger loans than most similar lenders.
Its typical loan was $265,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders (state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans), larger than at about four in five of them. Purchases made up 64.6% of its loans.
In 2023 it merged with Charlotte State Bank & Trust and Englewood Bank & Trust, and changed its name from Wauchula State Bank. Its loans rose 7% to 209 in 2025, a little below the 10% at similar lenders, and up from 127 five years before. The mergers may account for part of that rise.
It ranks 23 of 548 lenders in Punta Gorda, FL, but its share fell to 0.9% from 1.3%. Its total lending fell to $78.5 million from $90.7 million even as it made more loans. Fewer large loans may explain much of the drop.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 15.8% of its loans, against 27.9% at similar lenders, fewer than at nearly nine in ten of them. Its larger purchase loans may mean more of its borrowers have higher incomes. Its share of loans in LMI areas, 18.3%, was near the middle.
