Central Bank, a Utah lender, makes some of the biggest loans of any similar lender, and its lending rebounded by 62% in 2025.
Its typical loan was $485,000, against $175,000 at similar lenders, larger than all but a few of them. Similar lenders are state non-member banks making between half and twice as many loans. Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 7.5% of its loans, against 1.4% at its peers. Purchases made up 66.0%.
It made 141 loans, up from 87, while similar lenders grew 9%. Its record swings: 538 loans in 2020, 161 in 2022, 288 in 2023. Even after the rise it makes far fewer loans than in 2020.
In Provo-Orem-Lehi, where it has lent since at least 1990, it ranked 25 of 319 lenders, with a share of 0.8%, up from 0.5%. In St. George its share rose to 0.4% from 0.1%. United Wholesale Mortgage leads in Provo-Orem-Lehi and Guild Mortgage Company in St. George.
Borrowers with low and moderate incomes (LMI) took 16.7% of its loans, against 28.1% at similar lenders. LMI neighborhoods took 7.8%, against 17.5%. Its large loans and focus on home purchases are possible reasons.
