Bayfirst Financial made 7,069 loans in 2021 and 463 in 2025, and nearly half of what it lends now pays for home improvements.
In 2020 the bank made 6,646 loans, and 17.2% of them were guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In 2025 every loan was conventional. Home improvement took 45.4% of its lending and other purposes 37.1%. The record shows the change but not the reason for it.
Its loans fell 35% in 2025, from 713. Similar lenders, national banks making between half and twice as many loans, grew 6%, and the whole market 10%. Its fall was steeper than at more than nine in ten of them.
Its typical loan was $125,000, against $205,000 at similar lenders, smaller than at about nineteen in twenty. That fits a home-improvement lender. Low- and moderate-income borrowers took 14.7% of its loans, against 27.0% at peers. One possible reason is that home-improvement loans go to people who already own homes, and they may earn more than first-time buyers. Majority-minority neighborhoods took 11.7%, more than at about seven in ten peers.
In North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota it ranked 54 of 811 lenders, with 0.4% of lending, down from 0.6%. The drop is in line with its smaller volume.
